Key difference vs isolated ACL: the MCL side needs valgus protection early (brace + avoid side-to-side stress). Progress is criteria-based.

Valgus protection: –
Avoid: side-to-side (cutting/pivoting) and resisted adduction/valgus stress early
Brace: use as prescribed; check skin and swelling daily

Walking: often improves over 2–8 weeks depending on brace/WB plan and gait quality.
Stairs: commonly improving 6–10 weeks (strength + confidence).
Exercise bike: often ~4–6 weeks once ROM allows and swelling is controlled.
Jogging: commonly ~4–5 months (later if valgus stability/strength not ready).
Cutting/pivoting drills: often ~6–8 months with criteria/testing.
Return to sport: often ~9–12+ months with objective testing and confidence.
Desk job: often ~1–3 weeks if pain/swelling controlled and safe commuting.
Driving: varies (ensure safe braking and off sedating meds).

🚩 Red Flag Symptoms — Seek Medical Advice Immediately:

Fever above 100.4°F (38°C), chills, or feeling unwell
Increasing wound redness, warmth, discharge, bad smell, or wound opening
Sudden increase in swelling or severe pain that does not settle with rest/ice
Calf pain/swelling/tenderness (possible blood clot)
Shortness of breath or chest pain (medical emergency)
New numbness/weakness in the foot, or toes becoming cold/blue
New pop, giving-way episode, or sudden loss of knee motion
