Important Precautions (Instability-safe rehab)
⚠️ Early rehab is about
capsulolabral healing
. Avoid positions of instability.
⚠️ For most Bankart repairs, avoid combined
abduction + external rotation
early (the “throwing” position).
⚠️ Pain during rehab should ideally be
≤ 3/10
and should not flare the next day.
⚠️ With
Remplissage
, expect a more conservative progression for external rotation and overhead/throwing work (posterior cuff involvement).
Biceps procedure note:
limit early resisted elbow flexion/supination and avoid heavy lifting until cleared (often ~6 weeks+).
Red Flags – Seek Urgent Medical Review
🚩 Recurrent sense of “slipping out”, frank dislocation/subluxation episodes.
🚩 Increasing swelling, redness, warmth, wound discharge, or fever.
🚩 New numbness/tingling, progressive weakness, or hand clumsiness.
🚩 Sudden sharp pain with a new inability to move the shoulder.
🚩 Breathlessness/chest pain/sweating with shoulder or arm pain (medical emergency).
